הספר המלאך והחמין מציג שלושים סיפורי־עם מאוסף ארכיון הסיפור העממי בישראל ע"ש דב נוי (אסע"י) שבאוניברסיטת חיפה, ודן בהם בכלים מדעיים השוואתיים תוך בחינת ההקשרים התרבותיים שלהם. הנושא המרכזי המשותף לסיפורים אלה הוא האוכל. לאוכל מעמד מרכזי בחייו של האדם: הוא הכרחי לקיומו הפיזי והוא מהווה חלק בלתי נפרד משגרת יומו. הוא אחד היסודות המוכרים ביותר לאדם מיום היוולדו, ויש הסוברים אף מרגע היווצרו. היבטיו הפיזיים: ריח, טעם, מרקם ומראה מוכרים לנו היטב, פועלים על כל חושינו, ויש להם השפעה עמוקה על עולם הרגש שלנו. יש לו גם מעמד מרכזי בחברה: הוא מהווה בבואה של מבנה החברה ושל רבדיה השונים, הוא שזור בסמליה ובריטואלים שלה והוא מבטא קשת רחבה של זהויות: לאומית, אתנית, מעמדית ומגדרית. היות והאוכל טמון עמוק בזיכרון האישי והקבוצתי ומוכר כל כך, ניתן בקלות להשתמש בו כדימוי. הוא מהווה מעין שפת סימנים וסמלים אוניברסלית ובלתי אמצעית, המובנת גם בשתיקה. סוגיות שונות נחשפות דרך הסיפורים שבספר: ההנאה שהאוכל מסב לאוכלים ובחינת גבולותיה, מורכבות היחסים שבין גבר ואישה וביטויָם באכילה, האופן שבו ערכים מוסריים בין אדם לחברו מיושמים הלכה למעשה באמצעות האוכל, ההשלכות הקשות של עמידה בהלכות הכשרות בסביבה לא יהודית והקשיים הכרוכים בהתארגנות הקולינרית לקראת שבתות וחגים. בסיפורים מועלית גם ביקורת, לעתים חסרת פשרות ורוויַת לעג עצמי, על המציאות שיוצר האדם בחולשותיו ובחוזקותיו. כל סיפור בקובץ מכיל עולם ומלואו ואצורים בו זיכרון דורות ותובנות מושכלות על נבכי החיים, על טבע האדם ועל יחסיו המורכבים של האדם עם הסובב אותו.

שימשה בין השנים 2014-2003 כמרכזת המדעית של ארכיון הסיפור העממי בישראל על שם דב נוי (אסע"י) שבאוניברסיטת חיפה. מחקריה מתמקדים בפולקלור בספרות חז"ל וימי הביניים וזיקתו לסוגיות תרבותיות בנות זמננו, בספרות עממית ובסימבוליזם יהודי בהקשר תרבותי, וכן בשימור מורשת תרבותית רוחנית ומעברה למדיה הדיגיטלית.
