How to Keep House While Drowning
A gentle approach to cleaning and organising
by KC Davis

Brought to you by Penguin.

This is a book for anyone who feels overwhelmed by life and is looking for an accessible and gentle way to care for their home - and themselves.

Have you ever looked at a pile of dishes in the sink and wanted to crawl back into bed? Or found yourself staring at the overflowing recycling bin thinking, Why is my life such a mess?
But what if we stopped seeing a clean house as a reflection of our worth and instead as a kindness to our future self?
How to Keep House While Drowning will introduce you to six life-changing principles to revolutionise the way you approach domestic work, all without a single to-do list. Most importantly, it will help you get free of shame and guide you in coping with stress... and that ever-mounting laundry pile.

This book will help you:

· Find ways to make your home serve you
· Break down domestic work into manageable tasks
· Stop negative self-talk around housework
· Give yourself permission to rest, even when things aren't finished
What readers are saying:
'Absolutely loved this book ... It felt like [KC] had seen into my soul and written it directly for me'
'Profound and life-changing'
'It has had the biggest impact on me out of every book I've ever read'
'So simple it's brilliant'
'This book is a revelation'
'I highly recommend this book to anyone'

About the Author-
  • KC Davis is a licensed professional therapist, author, and speaker. She is the creator of the mental health platform Struggle Care, where she shares a revolutionary approach to self and home care for those dealing with mental health, physical illness, and hard seasons of life. KC's own home descended into chaos when she began suffering from anxiety and postnatal depression. She also received a late diagnosis of adult ADHD that shed additional light on why everyday care tasks were so difficult for her. Now she is a speaker and advocate for mental health and recovery. Professionally, KC has worked most of her career in the field of addiction in roles such a therapist, consultant, and executive director. She lives in Houston with her husband and two daughters.
Reviews-
  • AudioFile Magazine With compassion, hard-earned insights, and touches of humor, therapist KC Davis offers relief to the overwhelmed. Her voice is warm and understanding; whether listeners are struggling with the pandemic's aftermath or depression, Davis offers supportive ways to care for the home--and the self. With exhausted listeners in mind, Davis keeps chapters short and maintains a pace that can be readily absorbed. As she provides shortcuts and helpful recaps of main points, Davis throws a lifeline to listeners who are drowning in piles of dishes or laundry. Having been there herself while experiencing postpartum depression with a toddler, she offers advice that rings with the conviction of lived experience and is packed with creative work-arounds that will help listeners to challenge negative self-talk.
