January 9, 2017 The uninspired third (after Into the Whirlwind) in bestseller Martin’s uneven romantic thriller series about Brodie Operations Security Services (BOSS) Inc. focuses on professional bounty hunters Luke Brodie and Emma Cassidy. The Seattle duo team up professionally in search of bail skip Rudolph Vance, whose crimes include raping Emma’s niece and murdering a friend of her family. He’s also a significant player in the Pacific Northwest crime scene, with links to human trafficking, an FBI informant, and the Yakuza. Luke is notoriously uninterested in committed relationships, as Emma is aware and as she is continually reminded by his peers, even as they marvel at his unprecedented partnership with her. Limited gender roles and an uneasy mix of genres make this a negligible contribution to the series. Agent: Alexandra Machinist, ICM.
