צבים הוא ספר ביכורים מהפנט. מוריה דיין קודיש עושה כאן כמעט את הבלתי אפשרי. היא מצליחה לצותת להלכי הנפש ומשובי הגוף של דמויותיה בכל גוניהם — ברגעי האושר וההתפעמות, ברגעים מוזרים, מגעילים ודוחים — בהקשבה דקה מן הדק, שאותה היא מעבדת בלשונה באופן וירטואוזי. היא שומרת על האופי, הצבע והטון של הלכי הנפש של הדמויות, אבל גם משרבבת לתוכם נימים של התבוננות מבחוץ — נרתעת, מקניטה, אוהדת ומסוככת.
