About the Author-
Tracy McCubbin is author of Making Space, Clutter Free: The Last Book On Decluttering You'll Ever Need (June 4th, 2019). She has always referred to herself as "Obsessive Compulsive Delightful," but who knew she could turn that trait into a booming business? While working for a major television director in Los Angeles, Tracy discovered she had the ability to see through any mess and clearly envision a clutter-free space. Coupled with keen time-management and organizational skills, Tracy soon found more and more people were asking her for help. Before she knew it, dClutterfly was born.
Ten years and thousands of clients later, dClutterfly is Los Angeles' premier organizing and decluttering company. Tracy is a regularly featured expert on Hallmark's Home & Family, has a column on MindBodyGreen, and has regular declutter segments on Fox 5 and ABC Eyewitness News, KTLA Morning Show, KCAL9, and Good Day Sacramento. She and her company have also been featured in Real Simple, Women's Day and ShopSmart.
When not decluttering, she is the proud Co-Executive Director of OneKid OneWorld, a non-profit building strong educational foundations for children in impoverished communities throughout Kenya and Central America.
She lives in Los Angeles and knows where her keys are.

Founder of Los Angeles's premier organizing and decluttering company dClutterfly, McCubbin writes this work to assist people with clearing out the clutter that prevents them from experiencing a home that is restful, peaceful, and shareable. There is an emotional underpinning to cluttering, says the author. Thus, she conceives of the concept of "clutter blocks," or various attitudes that derail people in their striving for tidiness. These include storing fantasy stuff for a fantasy life, holding on to the good old days, and being trapped with other people's junk. McCubbin explores each of these issues, then provides room-by-room strategies for getting rid of the mess and keeping one's space neat. VERDICT While many books concentrate on either the emotional aspects of clutter or tips for getting rid of it, McCubbin interweaves both, resulting in highly practical guidance.

Starred review from May 15, 2019 Though organizing expert McCubbin touches a bit on the emotions surrounding the accumulation of stuff, this isn't another Kondo-clone, because she dives into the heart of why decluttering is so difficult. Like selling a house, stuff-riddance is laden with one or more of seven emotional blocks, like feeling that our stuff connects us to our past, or that we're trapped by other people's stuff. Wisely, McCubbin doesn't chastise; instead, she shares client stories that allow people to relate, get comfortable, and perhaps start thinking about lightening their loads. Particularly helpful are McCubbin's room-by-room lists of what to watch for (form and function, repurposed and double-duty furniture, adjusting adjustable shelves in the kitchen) and her five questions to ask about each and every item: Do I use it semi-regularly? Is it making me money? Will I buy it again or borrow it? Do I have a place to store it? Do I love it? Besides her eminently practical and understanding advice, the memorable testimonials will stick with readers, such as a soon-to-be divorce's insistence that, "I'll use it if it kills me." A panacea for those who believe they can't cope with stuff.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)

"What sets Tracy McCubbin apart is her kind and empathetic approach to organizing-she truly understands the psychology behind peoples' attachment to things. For me personally, when Tracy helps me declutter my house, she also helps me declutter my life! Her calm, pragmatic, and efficient spirit helps me not only put my house in order, but more importantly, my brain. I feel lighter and more focused after Tracy works her magic. I'm so excited that now my friends and fans will have the opportunity to meet Tracy through her book-a fresh start is just pages away!"
Cait Flanders, bestselling author of The Year of Less
"In Making Space, Clutter Free Tracy offers a realistic approach to managing your belongings. Instead of prescribing perfection, she understands our individual differences require individual strategies-and that it doesn't always need to be rational. The chapter on conscious consumption is what's often missing from this conversation but is so necessary right now. If you can change your relationship with shopping, you can change your relationship with stuff."
