אירית דרור־רייטן נולדה ב־22 בספטמבר 1939 בבוריסלב שבפולין. לאחר מלחמת העולם השנייה גרה עם הוריה בוולדנבורג שבפולין, וב־1950 עלתה עם משפחתה לישראל. היא למדה בבית הספר טביתא של הכנסייה הסקוטית ביפו ובקונסרבטוריון הישראלי למוזיקה בתל אביב.
היא בוגרת לימודי תואר ראשון בקווינס קולג' בניו יורק ולימודי תואר שני בפסיכולוגיה באוניברסיטת לסלי בבוסטון. במשך שנים רבות לימדה מוזיקה ואנגלית, ובעשרים השנים האחרונות היא מטפלת בחיילי צה"ל הסובלים מהפרעות דחק פוסט־טראומטיות.
לאירית דרור־רייטן יש ארבעה ילדים ושבעה נכדים. היא מתגוררת עם בעלה בישראל.
